Goodwood Festival of Speed | Unofficial Hillclimb Game

I am a big fan of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and have been many times over the years since 1993, and it is a unique event that captures my huge interest in anything motorsport, and primarily Formula 1, it is also right on my doorstep, I live near Worthing along the coast from Goodwood.
I love the event so much so that I decided to put together a game so that I could blast a car up the hill myself. (A dream of mine to do in real life in front of the crowds, my Vauxhall Frontera v6 3.2 give them a good laugh!)

I used Google Earth to map out the track, and used the GPS data from Google Earth for the height data, so the track layout and gradients are as close to the real world track as possible.

I started creating this shortly after last years event just for the fun of it, and was hoping to have it completed for this years event.

Unfortunately due to one thing and another I did not manage to spend as much time as I had hoped, and other paid work took precedence over my time.

However, as this years event is almost upon us, I could not resist the urge to show the world what I have done so far, even though its a long way from being close to complete.
I will be going on Sunday 3rd July 2011 this year, and I am really looking forward to a superb day.

I have taken two of my three children for the last three years, and they too are excited to be going again this year.

Last year they were lucky enough to get Lewis Hamilton's autograph, and to have their photo taken with him. (Shame the sun was in my son's eyes, and I had my camera on a setting for snow, all flustered in the moment!)

With regards to the game, you can see there is still a lot to be done, yet I would like to complete it in the future, and also create a version for mobile devices, I am an approved Apple iOS Developer, and am currently working on an iPhone motor racing game which I am hoping to release to the App Store very soon.

My plans are initially to have the game online available for all to use, this game is created by a fan for the fans of the event, and I will host a leaderboard online so users can post their best times via the game. I will add lots more vehicles to choose from, such as the V8 Ford Transit Van (love seeing that fly up the hill) and a couple of F1 cars, modern day and a 1970's or earlier car!

It would be great if Goodwood and Lord March expressed an interest in the game, and it became an official (rather than unofficial) game of the 2012 event! You never know... :-)

Anyway, I hope you enjoy having a blast up the hill using the Porcshe 911 GT3, and look out for the Goodwood House on the way!
